Applying For Employment With The Illinois Tollway
Keep Your Contact Information Current
It is critical that the personal contact information you provide be kept current. This would include information such as your name, address, phone number, etc. Communication from the Illinois Tollway during the application and hiring process is done via email.
Applicants are responsible for keeping their personal contact information current. To update this contact information, log in and click on "My Account." Edit your contact information as necessary and save your changes.

Electronic Hiring System
If you are a first-time user of the electronic hiring system, a personal account will need to be created including a username and password.
You will be directed to the login step that will enable the creation of an account at the time the user selects the 'apply' link at the top of a posting. This application can be saved and used to apply for more than one job opening. It is important that all relevant education and experience is documented on the application.
- Applicants must complete and submit one application for each position and each location for which they are applying.
- Applications and resumes are only accepted for posted positions.
- A description of each position will remain online for a minimum of 10 business days. Check this page regularly for new employment opportunities with the Illinois Tollway or complete a Job Interest Card.

- Interviews for all Illinois Tollway positions are held virtually.
- The Tollway uses a structured interview process that has adopted principles from what most commonly known as a CMS interview. A member from the HR team will serve as a moderator for the interview, and the interview panel will consist of a group of Tollway employees.
- Review the job description in advance of the interview to familiarize yourself with the duties and responsibilities of the role.
- It is recommended that you find a quiet location with a tidy background for the interview.
- Be sure to log on to the video call a few minutes early to ensure audio and visual is in working order.

The Illinois Tollway 2024 Engineering Cooperative Education (Co-Op) Program is designed to enhance students’ academic curriculum through fieldwork experience on active construction projects*. This program aligns with the Engineering Department’s mission of ensuring safety and efficiency of roadway construction and maintenance. Under the guidance of an Illinois Tollway engineer, students will be exposed to a year-round experience of engineering work arranged in three phases:
- Planning (Forecasting and project management)
- Design (Structural drafting and 3-D modeling)
- Construction (Inspections and traffic maintenance)
Embedded within technical learning and skill application will be soft skills trainings such as presentation skills, professional communication, and other core competencies for engineering professionals.
The Engineering Co-Op Program is ideal for current students who are interested in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Engineering, and related fields.
Interns can anticipate a paid part-time experience requiring 35 hours per week during the summer and reduced part-time hours (up to 30 hours per week) during the fall and spring semesters.
*Please note: Students must have reliable transportation to active construction sites which may, or may not, be easily accessible by public transportation.

Tollway computers are available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.
If you require assistance applying online in the Tollway Lobby, Employee Services Coordinators are available to assist, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If applying in person, you must apply by the closing date of the position.
