Inside the Tollway
National Intern Day: Investing in Tomorrow’s Workforce
2026-07-30
Every summer, the Illinois Tollway welcomes students from colleges and universities across the country for an opportunity to learn, grow and gain real-world experience in public service.
This year, 39 interns representing 29 colleges and universities in 10 states joined teams across 13 Illinois Tollway departments, working alongside experienced professionals on projects that help serve the more than 1.7 million drivers who rely on the Tollway every day.
On National Intern Day, we're recognizing the contributions our interns have made this summer and thanking them for the enthusiasm, creativity and dedication they bring to the agency.
From engineering and information technology to communications, finance and operations, interns gained hands-on experience while contributing to projects that support the Tollway's mission of providing safe, reliable travel for customers throughout Northern Illinois.
Along the way, they developed new skills, built professional relationships and brought fresh perspectives that strengthened the Tollway.
The Illinois Tollway is proud to invest in the next generation of transportation professionals and public servants. Our internship program helps prepare students for successful careers while building a pipeline of talented future leaders who will help shape the future of transportation.
Thank you to our 2026 intern class for your hard work, curiosity and commitment to serving our customers and communities. We wish you continued success and look forward to seeing all you accomplish in the future.
Happy National Intern Day!
