  • Applicants must complete and submit one application for each position and each location for which they are applying.

  • Applications and resumes are only accepted for posted positions.

  • A description of each position will remain online for a minimum of 10 business days. Check this page regularly for new employment opportunities with the Illinois Tollway or complete a Job Interest Card.

Tips For Interviewing

  • Interviews for all Illinois Tollway positions are held virtually.

  • The Tollway uses a structured interview process that has adopted principles from what most commonly known as a CMS interview. A member from the HR team will serve as a moderator for the interview, and the interview panel will consist of a group of Tollway employees.

  • Review the job description in advance of the interview to familiarize yourself with the duties and responsibilities of the role.

  • It is recommended that you find a quiet location with a tidy background for the interview. 

  • Be sure to log on to the video call a few minutes early to ensure audio and visual is in working order.

PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled, or have a graduation date of November 2024 or later, in any trade/vocational program, certificate program, 2-year, 4-year or graduate level institution

  • Ability to use a range of technology tools including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have reliable transportation to Downers Grove Tollway Central Administration Building on a frequent basis (1-3 times weekly)

The Illinois Tollway Engineering Cooperative Education (Co-Op) Program is designed to enhance students’ academic curriculum through fieldwork experience on active construction projects*. This paid program aligns with the Engineering Department’s mission of ensuring safety and efficiency of roadway construction and maintenance.

The Engineering (Co-Op) Program is ideal for currents students interested in:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Construction Management
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Other related fields

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Two co-op length options: summer only or year-round
  • In-person Fieldwork experience on active construction projects*
  • Professional development activities and interactive networking experiences during the summer
  • Assigned mentorship with an Illinois Tollway engineer
  • Full-time participation during the summer with reduced part-time hours (15 hours per week) during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Engineering work arranged in 3 phrases: Planning (Forecasting and project management), Design (structural drafting and 3-D modeling), and Construction (Inspections and traffic maintenance)

PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled at an accredited trade/vocational program, college, or university studying engineering or a related program with an interest in learning about roadway engineering and construction project management.
  • Must have reliable transportation to Tollway HQ and various construction sites within the Tollway’s 294-mile system on a frequent basis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and Power Point
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and analytical skills
  • Superior organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

*Please note:  Students must have reliable transportation to active construction sites which may, or may not, be easily accessible by public transportation.
