Construction Update (7/3/25)

Between Illinois Route 23 and the DeKalb Oasis, all traffic is shifted onto the eastbound side of the road with the roadway reduced to a single lane in each direction. Traffic on I-88 is scheduled to remain in this configuration through summer when it will shift onto the westbound side of the roadway.

York Road
On the York Road Bridge over the I-88 ramps in Oak Brook, traffic is is shifted onto the southbound side of the bridge and reduced to one lane in each direction to allow for the removal and reconstruction of the northbound side of the bridge. Traffic is scheduled to remain in this configuration through summer, at which time traffic will be shifted onto the new northbound side of the bridge for reconstruction of the southbound lanes.

I-294/I-88/I-290
At I-294, work on the Central Tri-State Project is impact traffic on I-88 at the I-294 and I-290 Interchange. Please see the I-290/I-88 Interchange Project at I-294 page for more details.

Customer Impacts

Whenever possible, the Tollway uses traffic shifts and shoulders to keep as many lanes open during peak hours as were available before construction.

Electronic message signs and construction signage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to scheduled lane closures, traffic patterns and work zone speed limits.

To accommodate pavement repairs, detours of the ramp from southbound Illinois Route 59 to westbound I-88 and the ramp from Ogden Avenue to westbound I-88 will be needed.

Purpose

These repairs are necessary to extend the life of the roadway and bridges and provide safe and convenient travel for Tollway customers. This work is part of the Tollway’s 16-year, $15 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future.

Construction is being coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation, DuPage County, Village of Oak Brook, DeKalb County and the Union Pacific Railroad, as well as local government and highway departments and local fire and police departments.

Sustainability

The Tollway is committed to building green and minimizing the environmental impact of construction by reducing, recycling and reusing materials. In addition to reducing the cost of this work, reuse of these materials reduces the need for virgin asphalt materials and reduces energy consumption, greenhouse gases and the volume of material that would otherwise be sent to landfills.

Work Zone Safety

The Illinois Tollway is committed to ensuring that the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) remain safe for both drivers and workers during construction, which is part of the agency’s overall commitment to roadway safety.

Work zone speed limits are in effect in all construction zones 24/7 and drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present.
