Construction Update (4/18/25)

At East Riverside Boulevard, traffic on the ramp carrying traffic from East Riverside Boulevard to eastbound I-90 is shifted to the right. The ramp is scheduled to remain in this configuration through summer.

Please check the Daily Construction Alert for up-to-date closure information.

Customer Impacts

Lane closures and traffic shifts are necessary to provide a work zone and safely accommodate construction.

Local crossroad bridge closures with detours will be needed on Belvidere Road, Harlem Road, Spring Creek Road and Rote Road over I-90 to complete the work because the bridge structures are not wide enough to safely maintain traffic and provide work zones.

Lane reductions and traffic shifts will be needed on Rockton Road and Irene Road bridge carrying traffic over I-90.

Electronic message signs and construction signage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to scheduled lane closures, traffic patterns and work zone speed limits.

Purpose

Repair work will provide customers an improved driving experience and extend the life of the roadway. This work is part of the Tollway’s 16-year, $15 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future.

Work is being coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Cook County, Boone County, Kane County, McHenry County, Winnebago County and local communities, as well as local fire and police departments.

Sustainability

The Tollway is committed to building green and minimizing the environmental impact of construction by reducing, recycling and reusing materials. In addition to reducing the cost of this work, reuse of these materials reduces the need for virgin asphalt materials and reduces energy consumption, greenhouse gases and the volume of material that would otherwise be sent to landfills.

Work Zone Safety

The Illinois Tollway is committed to ensuring that the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) remains safe for both drivers and workers during construction, which is part of the agency’s overall commitment to roadway safety.

Work zone speed limits are in effect in all construction zones 24/7 and drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present.
